About the position

The Loan Specialist position at the Small Business Administration's Fresno Commercial Loan Service Center involves servicing, purchasing, and liquidating commercial loans. The incumbent will be responsible for reviewing loan files, analyzing financial situations, and making recommendations to maximize recovery for the agency while minimizing losses. This role requires strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively with borrowers and lenders.

Responsibilities

• Perform servicing, purchasing, and liquidation activities for loans.
• Review assigned loan files to understand collateral and terms.
• Gather and review facts related to loan balances and creditor interests.
• Contact lenders and Certified Development Companies to discuss loan situations.
• Analyze information from borrowers and creditors to recommend recovery strategies.
• Develop recommendations for repayment plans and loan restructuring.
• Review requests from borrowers and lenders regarding loan servicing and liquidation.
• Determine when collection efforts are exhausted and recommend charge-offs.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in federal service, involving knowledge of regulations governing loan servicing and liquidation.
• Education may substitute for experience: a master's degree in finance, business administration, economics, or related fields, or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education.
• Combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Nice-to-haves
