About the position

The Loan Specialist (General) position at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) involves providing disaster loan assistance to homeowners, renters, and businesses affected by disasters. The role requires evaluating credit histories, processing various types of loans, and making sound credit recommendations to assist disaster victims while safeguarding government interests. This is a term appointment with potential for extension, and it may involve substantial overtime during disaster activities.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and evaluate credit history to determine the creditworthiness of applicant businesses and their principal owners.
• Process business loans, complex residential loans, and all types of business and economic injury loans.
• Use creativity and judgment to make sound credit recommendations that assist disaster victims while protecting government interests.
• Evaluate collateral by considering the type of collateral property, lien position, and available equity.
• Notify applicants in writing of the information necessary to proceed with processing loan requests.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Government travel credit card.
• Favorable background investigation and credit check are required.
• Completion of a one-year trial period may be required.
• Education in finance, business administration, economics, accounting, or related fields is preferred.
• Specialized experience in agricultural, commercial, or realty loans is required.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field.
• Experience in reviewing and processing loan applications using web-based financial/lending software.
