About the position

The Driver - CDL (A) at Republic Services, Inc. is responsible for the safe operation of heavy commercial trucks, including tractor trailers and straight trucks with pup trailers. This role is crucial for ensuring the prompt and courteous delivery and removal of large containers, which is a key part of the company's commitment to providing excellent service to its customers. The driver must ensure that their vehicle complies with the company's safety standards before operation, adhere to all relevant company, state, and federal regulations, and complete daily vehicle condition reports (VCRs) to identify and address any vehicle defects in a timely manner. In this position, the driver will perform complete pre- and post-operation inspections of the vehicle, ensuring that all safety equipment, gauges, and controls are functioning properly. They will safely navigate designated routes to disposal sites, read route sheets, and follow maps to service each customer as assigned by dispatchers or supervisors. The driver will operate manual and automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate compactors, and dispose of collected materials at designated facilities. Customer interaction is a significant part of the role, requiring courteous communication with customers, dispatchers, and other personnel to ensure timely and professional service. Additionally, the driver will be responsible for performing minor repairs to containers on-site, identifying unsatisfactory waste containers, and monitoring waste for unacceptable materials. They will also clean areas around accidental waste spills and maintain the vehicle's operational readiness to minimize downtime. Completing required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports is essential, as is adherence to productivity standards to ensure efficient service delivery. The driver is expected to actively participate in the company's ReSOP program and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with Company policy.
  • Safely operate heavy truck along designated route and to the disposal site.
  • Read route sheet, follow map, and service each customer as identified on the route sheet.
  • Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse and dispose of collected material.
  • Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely service.
  • Perform minor repairs to containers on site or in the container yard.
  • Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them according to departmental procedures.
  • Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste.
  • Clean area around accidental waste spills, adhering to safety standards.
  • Monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure operational readiness.
  • Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports.
  • Maintain adherence to required productivity standards for timely customer service.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in the Company's ReSOP program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Class A Commercial Driver's license with air brakes endorsement.
  • Two years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
  • Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Good time management skills to ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to adhere to Company policies and promote safety standards.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to perform minor repairs to containers.
