About the position

The Local Hire (Geospatial Data Analytics and Cell Analyst) position at FEMA is a temporary role focused on supporting disaster response and recovery efforts in Columbia, South Carolina. Local hires are typically residents who assist in the recovery of their communities. The position involves implementing geospatial and data analytics to aid in disaster recovery operations, utilizing various software tools to provide maps and data products, and coordinating GIS activities with internal and external partners. This role is critical in helping FEMA respond to and recover from disasters, with appointments lasting 120 days and potentially extendable based on agency needs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and advise on the National Disaster Recovery Support (NDRS) and National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF) regarding geospatial and data issues in disaster recovery operations.
  • Provide maps and data products using ESRI products, Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, Python, R, and SQL.
  • Coordinate GIS and data activities and requests for internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • Experience in providing geospatial data analysis for pre-disaster conditions, disaster impacts, and post-disaster recovery.
  • Understanding of geographic terms and map projections.
  • Utilization of GIS technology to solve complex analytical problems related to community recovery.
