About the position

Local Office Landscape and Urban Design (LOCAL) is seeking Landscape Architectural Design Interns to join our Brooklyn-based studio. We are a research-driven design firm dedicated to creating innovative, resilient, and environmentally just landscapes. Our team is hyper-collaborative and multidisciplinary, focusing on developing contextual design solutions across various scales. As a Design Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our studio design team on a range of landscape architectural and urban design projects, both locally and regionally. This role is ideal for students who are passionate about landscape architecture and eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic studio environment. In this position, you will collaborate with design leads to cultivate strong design sensibilities while building a solid foundation in construction methodologies. You will be involved in researching, planning, and designing compelling projects, which will enhance your understanding of the field. The internship will provide you with the chance to express complex ideas graphically and visually, as well as to develop your skills in site planning and design. You will also be expected to prepare landscape architectural plans, physical and 3D models, and 2D and 3D drawings using architectural software to illustrate project design concepts. Additionally, you will participate in design competitions and proposals, preparing written and graphic submissions for potential clients.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited landscape architectural and urban design program.
  • Knowledgeable in Adobe, AutoCAD, Rhino, V-ray, 3D modeling, Enscape, and GIS.
  • Ability to express complex ideas and solve problems graphically and visually.
  • Knowledge in site planning and design.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong organization and time management habits.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience working within a design team and taking direction from project leads.
