The Local Manager - Construction position is pivotal in ensuring that construction projects are executed efficiently and safely within a designated geographic area. This role involves direct leadership of a workforce comprising line workers and splicers responsible for the installation and splicing of copper and fiber cables, as well as managing pole placements and removals. The Local Manager will also interface with construction vendors to ensure that all work adheres to company and industry standards, maintaining a focus on safety and professionalism throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will be a passionate leader with a strong technical background and industry experience. They will be responsible for meeting project deadlines while ensuring that all construction is performed according to design specifications or modified as necessary due to field conditions. This includes managing budgets, reviewing contractor invoices, and overseeing material usage to align with project objectives. The Local Manager will also play a crucial role in resolving any conflicts that arise with vendor partners and will work closely with permitting agencies to address any roadblocks related to project approvals. In addition to project management, the Local Manager will set team goals that align with departmental objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). They will provide consistent feedback and direction to staff, ensuring employee development and engagement. The role also involves maintaining a safe work environment through regular safety meetings and training, reinforcing compliance with state and federal safety regulations. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct construction leadership and oversight for projects in an assigned geographic area.
  • Ensure projects are constructed as designed or modified as necessary, capturing field changes through the JIM process.
  • Manage work and workforce under established capital and expense budget objectives.
  • Review and approve contractor invoices and timesheets, overseeing overtime authorization and material use.
  • Collaborate with vendor partners to ensure compliance with agreements and resolve conflicts.
  • Communicate with permitting agencies to address roadblocks and grievances proactively.
  • Set team goals aligned with department goals and KPIs for consistent improvement.
  • Provide feedback and direction to staff for employee development and engagement.
  • Conduct employee performance appraisals and ensure consistent performance feedback.
  • Partner with Human Resources to apply HR practices and policies fairly and consistently.
  • Listen and respond to employee feedback and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through scheduled safety meetings and training.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of prior supervisory experience in a construction or telecommunications environment.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a solid work ethic.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering, plant service center, and outside plant functions.
  • Basic PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Advanced knowledge of outside plant construction functions for both copper and fiber.
  • Basic understanding of electronics, electrical circuitry, and network installation.
  • Availability to support off-shift technicians and emergency situations as needed.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Operations Management, or Business Administration preferred.
