About the position

The Local P&D Driver (Class A - Fully Endorsed) is responsible for safely operating a tractor/trailer to transport freight while adhering to all relevant regulations and safety protocols. This role requires driving in various terrains and environmental conditions, conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and ensuring the security of equipment and cargo. The driver will also assist with dock work, including loading and unloading freight, and must maintain compliance with FMCSA regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Operate all types of equipment to perform safety functions, including manual transmission and chaining tires.
• Safely operate a tractor/trailer in accordance with Company, Federal, State, and Local laws.
• Maintain records required for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Comply with requirements for the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.
• Check gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions and ensure seals or locks on trailers are secure.
• Report maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision promptly.
• Verify unit numbers versus paperwork and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
• Use in-cab technology, including electronic logs, as required.
• Drive different schedules and work the dock based on business needs.
• Provide professional and courteous service to customers and the general public.
• Assist with dock work, including loading/unloading freight.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience.
• 21 years of age required per FMCSA regulations.
• 1 year of driving experience required.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Must reside within 75 miles of the domiciled terminal or work assignment.
• HazMat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements required.
• Ability to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle).
• Must be able to push or pull a loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70 lbs.
• Stable employment history preferred.
• Must pass a FMCSA required medical exam and road test.
• Ability to meet FMCSA's requirements to speak and read English.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with over-the-road driving.
• Familiarity with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations.
