About the position

The Localization Editor II at The Pokémon Company International is responsible for ensuring consistency in editorial style and enhancing the readability of text related to mobile titles. This role involves editing, proofreading, and reviewing various materials, including game text and marketing content, while collaborating with localization professionals to maintain the brand's voice and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Edit, proof, and review materials related to mobile titles, including game text, marketing materials, and press releases.
  • Playtest and participate in the QA process, implementing changes as needed.
  • Edit copy for grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, and target audience, ensuring accuracy and consistency in style and terminology.
  • Take a lead role for projects as required, conforming to the developers' vision while maintaining a comprehensive picture of the project's timeline and needs.
  • Provide input and cultural perspectives in creative development meetings with other localization professionals.
  • Contribute to process analyses and workflow improvements, responding quickly to feedback with effective solutions.
  • Understand the localization direction and philosophy of the brand and follow them, receiving feedback from peers and supervisors.
  • Collaborate productively and communicate proactively with other localization professionals.

Requirements

  • At least three years of professional copyediting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent years of work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, especially the 18th edition.
  • Experience playing Pokémon GO and wide-ranging knowledge of video games and the Pokémon brand.
  • Exceptional communication skills and a focused eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of localization issues and cross-cultural awareness.
  • Experience using MS Word, Excel, and specialized technical programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Text editing experience in the video game industry and playtesting/QA experience.
  • Previous experience working with a team of editors and localization professionals.
