The General Manager will oversee a client-based operation, ensuring that labor efficiency is maximized while minimizing overhead and resource expenses. This role is crucial in maintaining the operational efficiency of processes and teams, ensuring that deliverables meet customer needs and financial benchmarks. The General Manager will also be responsible for formulating and recommending policies that guide the company in maintaining its competitive position and profitability. In this position, the General Manager will provide day-to-day leadership and management that reflects the core values of the company. This includes managing District Managers and Warehouse Managers to ensure timely and cost-effective deliverables. The role requires the execution of business goals and objectives that contribute to profitability, as well as ensuring the effectiveness of all internal and external processes. The General Manager will be tasked with developing and implementing effective growth strategies, fostering a success-oriented environment, and maintaining strong relationships with clients to ensure contractual obligations are met. Additionally, the General Manager will monitor operating costs, alerting the Regional Vice President of any overruns, and recommending solutions to problems. The position also involves advising managers on various labor issues, ensuring compliance with company policies, and managing budgets effectively. Hiring, training, and developing staff is a key responsibility, along with keeping up to date with industry information and technology to drive innovation and compliance. The role may require travel to various locations within the region for client meetings, and the General Manager must possess reliable transportation for this purpose.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of a client-based operation to maximize labor efficiency and minimize overhead costs.
  • Manage District Managers and Warehouse Managers to ensure timely and cost-effective deliverables.
  • Execute business goals and objectives contributing to profitability.
  • Ensure measurement and effectiveness of all internal and external processes, providing accurate reports on the company's operating condition.
  • Develop, communicate, and implement effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company.
  • Maintain relationships with clients to ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Ensure standards for quality, client expectations, and operator performance are maintained.
  • Monitor and report operating costs, alerting the Regional Vice President of any overruns and recommending solutions.
  • Advise managers on labor issues including safety, security, employee relations, and training.
  • Manage budgets and control expenses effectively.
  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Stay updated on information and technology affecting the logistics field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 or more years of industry experience in logistics and warehouse management.
  • Experience managing a team of 30+ people.
  • Proven experience with BOS and WH/XDT processes.
  • Experience with independent contractors.
  • Proficient in PC usage and able to present functional specifications to the IT department.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with superiors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Ability to maintain constructive working relationships and exhibit professionalism.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in final mile delivery logistics.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed.
