About the position

The Locksmith position at Montgomery Parks Facilities Management Division involves performing skilled locksmith work to maintain and build new structures. The role requires collaboration with a team to support the division's mission of maintaining the Department's physical assets, including facilities and major building systems. The Locksmith will be responsible for installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing locks and door hardware, as well as managing administrative tasks related to locksmith projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled locksmith work including installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of locks and door hardware.
• Open all types of locks and perform work associated with specialty locks and security devices.
• Complete door repairs or replacements, including hanging doors and installing panic hardware.
• Review blueprints, construction plans, and specifications related to locksmith work.
• Inspect facilities for lock, door, and hardware issues and assess security needs with management and staff.
• Estimate resources needed for maintenance, repair, or replacement assignments.
• Receive and complete work orders for locksmith projects and report to supervisor daily.
• Make purchases and meet with vendors to identify necessary security equipment and supplies.
• Assist with writing bid specifications and obtaining bids and price quotes.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of an approved Locksmith apprenticeship or four years of progressively responsible locksmith experience.
• Two years of journey-level locksmith experience.
• Valid driver's license in accordance with State and Commission rules and regulations.
• Ability to pass Commission medical examination.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of locksmith methods, materials, equipment, doors and hardware, master key systems, electronic access systems, and automatic door opening systems.
• Skilled in the operation of locksmith tools, hand tools, power tools, and motor vehicles.
