The position requires flexibility and the ability to assist with various duties within the department, often working independently. In addition to technical skills, the locksmith must exhibit high professionalism and a commitment to the district's mission and strategic goals. This includes demonstrating high-quality customer service, building rapport with consumers, and promoting teamwork. The locksmith will also be responsible for performing preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, ensuring they are in safe operating condition, and following established safety procedures. The role may involve working at various heights and requires the ability to lift heavy objects and perform tasks that require close vision and depth perception. The locksmith will also need to communicate effectively with customers regarding problem areas and breakdowns, and respond appropriately in confrontational situations. Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains all existing locks and hardware.
  • Orders and installs new locks and hardware according to blue print specifications.
  • Cuts keys, re-keys according to bitting lists, and opens locks using lock defeating tools and methods.
  • Complies with state and federal safety codes.
  • Displays good interpersonal skills, using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence in interactions with others and promotes teamwork.
  • Responds and acts appropriately in confrontational situations.
  • Communicates professionally with customers about problem areas and/or breakdowns.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in the work area and reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required; insurable by the District's insurance carrier required.
  • Locksmith Journeyman license preferred or obtainable within 1 year of employment.
  • 3 years' locksmith experience on commercial buildings required.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and District rules and regulations applicable to equipment and systems in public school systems.
  • Knowledge of ingress and egress hardware and associated lock and security systems, NFPA Fire and Life Safety Codes, Uniform Building Codes, ADA, EPA regulations, and OSHA codes.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and methods used in the maintenance and repair of locks, including key making and master-keying practice.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to read work orders and calculate quantities of materials needed for repairs.
