The Locksmith I position at Pepperdine University is a full-time role under the direction of the Access Manager for the Department of Facilities Services (DFS). This position involves the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks, locking devices, exit devices, doors, and door hardware throughout the campus. The locksmith will work closely with colleagues and other university departments to ensure high-quality project delivery in a timely manner. The role requires collaboration with the Lead Locksmith to oversee troubleshooting, installation, repairs, and preventative maintenance programs for all locks and related equipment, including both electronic and mechanical lock hardware. In this role, the locksmith will be responsible for cutting keys, building and installing lock cores, and servicing various types of lock hardware, including mortise, cylindrical, and rim cylinder exit devices. The locksmith will also install and service doors and door hardware, troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical door operators, and ensure compliance with ADA standards. The position requires reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings to assemble and service low voltage electronic security components, including networked access control systems and standalone digital electronic locks. The locksmith will assist in project delivery processes, including preparing programs, estimates, budgets, schedules, and status reports. Effective communication and coordination with university departments such as Design and Construction, Public Safety, and Information Technology are essential to ensure that all parties are informed and that work proceeds with minimal disruption to university operations. The locksmith will also maintain accurate records of work performed, manage materials and inventory, and uphold the university's mission through their work. Regular administrative tasks, including data entry and monitoring systems, will also be part of the responsibilities. The locksmith is expected to maintain required trade-specific training and certifications and participate in staff improvement programs.
