About the position

The part-time Locksmith position at SSC Services for Education involves providing locksmith services, including the repair, alteration, installation, and keying of mechanical and electronic lock systems throughout the facility. The role requires adherence to established security protocols and offers opportunities for training and growth within a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Reads blueprints and diagrams to determine materials needed and estimates time and material costs for installations.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains keys and locks.
• Inserts new or repaired tumblers into locks to change combinations.
• Uses lock picks to open door locks without keys.
• Installs locks and lock systems using various hardware and carpentry methods.
• Maintains records and inventory for locks, keys, spare parts, tools, and equipment.
• Uses a key cutting machine to cut new or duplicate keys.
• Troubleshoots and repairs electronic lock systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 5 years of previous locksmith experience preferred but not required.
• Valid Locksmith license may be required, depending on state regulations.
• 2 years of trade school or on-the-job related experience.
• 3 years of experience as a Locksmith or technician in a similar-sized institution.
• Ability to lift medium and/or heavy equipment and tools.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with electronic lock systems.
• Knowledge of security protocols and procedures.
