About the position

The Locksmith position within the City of Monroe's Facility Maintenance Department involves performing skilled and semi-skilled locksmith work, including the repair, alteration, installation, and keying of manual and electronic locking systems. The role is essential for maintaining the security of city facilities and equipment, ensuring that all locking mechanisms are functional and secure. The position requires physical exertion and the ability to work under various environmental conditions, and it is supervised by the maintenance crew leader.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled locksmith work maintaining and repairing manual and electronic locking systems in facilities and equipment.
  • Install locking systems such as doors, door hardware, closures, panic hardware, and security bolts in facilities.
  • Cut new or duplicate keys for city buildings.
  • Make measurements and cut materials to exact specifications for the placement of locks.
  • Diagnose operational problems in locks and systems and perform necessary repairs.
  • Inspect facilities, systems, and components to identify necessary repairs and provide maintenance.
  • Perform minor repairs and modifications to doors and doorframes to maintain proper closing and security.
  • Re-key locks and change combinations as needed.
  • Coordinate with staff to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Inventory and order locks, keys, and related equipment and supplies; prepare specifications and obtain quotes as needed.
  • Maintain and use confidential key and core data and assigned key tracker to create, change, and install locking equipment and lock cores.
  • Perform related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • General knowledge of locksmith techniques and practices.
  • Completion of Vocational Training in Locksmithing is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods as required by work assignments.

Nice-to-haves
