Locksmith

About the position

The Locksmith position at the University of California, Santa Barbara involves performing journey-level locksmithing tasks and related repairs/installations for various buildings maintained by Residential Operations. The role requires a strong focus on safety practices and customer service, while working in a diverse and multicultural environment. The locksmith will be responsible for maintaining locking systems, installing and servicing door hardware, and collaborating with various staff to ensure effective operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform journey-level locksmith duties including layout, repair, installation, and maintenance of master key systems, locks, and lock hardware.
• Manually pin cores and cut new and duplicate keys using manual, automated, and computerized key cutting equipment.
• Operate computerized electronic access systems, including installation, repair, and maintenance of associated electronic hardware.
• Install, maintain, and repair all types of building hardware such as door closers, fasteners, and panic hardware.
• Maintain accurate lock and key data in various systems and provide training to co-workers on locks and door hardware.
• Conduct master key audits and research different key and access systems, making recommendations to management.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years experience as a Locksmith.
• Experience with Best Interchangeable core systems and Schlage institutional lock hardware and cylinders.
• Ability to work in an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic team environment.
• Understanding of safety practices and Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Proven customer service skills with good follow-through and strong communication skills.

• Work experience in a University Housing environment.
