About the position

The Locksmith position at North Carolina A&T State University involves independently maintaining, improving, and expanding all residential facilities. The role is crucial for ensuring a safe and secure environment for learning by managing locking mechanisms, assisting with keying systems, and performing various maintenance tasks across campus. The position requires technical skills in locksmithing and the ability to respond to emergencies and adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain electronic locking systems.
• Cut and issue keys for all residential facilities.
• Rekey and repair locks, including grand master and master key locks.
• Install and repair exit devices and door closures.
• Inspect and adjust doors to ensure proper operation.
• Address security and emergency needs related to doors and door hardware.
• Perform all locksmith duties as requested by the supervisor.
• Read blueprints to log keys for new construction and renovation.
• Participate in on-call duties and emergency callbacks as assigned.
• Maintain an inventory of tools and materials stored in the shop.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
• Completion of a 2-year technical school and ten years of progressive work experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of locking mechanisms in a commercial environment.
• Knowledge of master keying systems and standard practices of the locksmith trade.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and work from blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) and/or Certified Institutional Locksmith (CIL) required.

Nice-to-haves

• Training in CAD CAM operations preferred.
