About the position

R.J. Corman Railroad Company is seeking a skilled Locomotive Mechanic to join our dedicated team in Russellville, KY. This position involves performing essential maintenance on locomotives, railroad cars, and various equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting F.R.A. inspections across the United States, which are critical for compliance with federal regulations governing railroad operations. This role requires a strong understanding of locomotive mechanics and the ability to troubleshoot and repair various systems, including mechanical, air, and electrical components. In addition to inspections, the Locomotive Mechanic will engage in hands-on repairs, utilizing welding and oxygen/acetylene torching techniques as necessary. The position also includes operating service cranes and performing preventative maintenance on company locomotives and equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure reliability. The mechanic may also be called upon to repair freight cars and other equipment as needed, maintaining a safe and clean work environment at all times. This role is vital to the operational success of R.J. Corman Railroad, as it directly impacts the safety and efficiency of our rail services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety protocols and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Locomotive inspections and FRA inspections.
  • Locomotive repairs including mechanical, air and electrical.
  • Service crane operation.
  • Welding and oxygen/acetylene torching.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on company locomotives and equipment.
  • Freight car repair if necessary.
  • General repairs of other equipment if necessary.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment as needed.
  • Maintain safe and clean work area.

Requirements

  • Experienced in Locomotive and FRA inspections.
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Locomotive repairs including mechanical, air and electrical.
  • Knowledge of power and hydraulic tools.
  • Welding and oxygen/acetylene torching experience.
  • Maintenance of assigned vehicle.
