About the position

The Log Quality Technician at Robbins Manufacturing Co is responsible for managing the log yard operations, including the receipt of log trucks, inventory management, and quality assessment of logs. This role involves constant communication with log suppliers and production teams to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries while maintaining high-quality standards for logs.

Responsibilities

• Managing Log Yard Receipt of log trucks
• Planning and organization of log yard
• Conducting daily to weekly log yard inventory
• Providing feedback to log buyer and others on inventory levels
• Running Log Yield Tests
• Selecting loads for testing
• Entering relevant information from each test into the system
• Comparing and analyzing yield test information
• Working with production to minimize operational interruptions
• Coordinating log deliveries
• Maintaining constant communication with log suppliers regarding expected deliveries
• Communicating with production teams about future needs
• Anticipating weather events and other factors affecting deliveries
• Monitoring log cost and raw material prices
• Assessing log quality and defects
• Providing daily feedback to loggers through various communication methods
• Developing and maintaining a quality scorecard for supplier expectations
• Performing additional duties as assigned

Requirements

• Proficient with chain saw operation and maintenance
• Able to operate heavy equipment (rubber tire loaders, knuckle booms)
• Familiarity with Southern Yellow Pine timber
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Proficient use of tape measure
• Attention to detail
• Proficient use of Excel, email, and other computer-based programs
• Willingness and ability to travel to log sites to work with loggers on quality and other issues, up to 2 days per week
• Use of own vehicle (mileage reimbursement)
• Willingness to spend time outdoors year-round, with approximately 80% of tasks performed in the elements
