About the position

The Logistics & Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall management and administration of Logistics & Facilities for the Sheriff's Office. This role is performed under the direct supervision of the Major for Security and Operations, and the Manager is accountable for the use of delegated authority. The Manager will ensure that operations are well-coordinated and productive by managing procedures and coaching personnel. The responsibilities of this position are extensive, requiring a thorough knowledge of various processes. The ideal candidate must be competent and able to plan a variety of operational activities. They must also be an excellent leader capable of discovering the most efficient ways to run and manage major aspects of the Hampton Sheriff's Office. The ultimate goal is to safeguard and enhance the efficiency of the Sheriff's Office operations to facilitate accelerated development and long-term success. The Logistics & Facilities Manager will maintain the overall upkeep of the Hampton Community Corrections Center, Hampton City Jail, and Adult Intake. They will liaise with superiors to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals. The Manager will plan and monitor the day-to-day operations of correctional facilities to ensure smooth progress, supervise staff from different departments, and provide constructive feedback. Regular evaluations of business procedures will be conducted to ensure alignment with organizational objectives, applying improvements as necessary. The Manager will also manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resource allocation, overseeing customer support and correctional facilities operations processes to enhance customer satisfaction and employee performance in logistics, facilities maintenance, fleet management, property destruction, warehouse operations, special events, key control, and emergency operations. Special attention will be given to the daily operations of correctional facilities and workforce/inmate services. The Manager will ensure smooth facilities operations, security protocols, and efficient inmate management. They will oversee fleet management, ensuring proper maintenance and optimal utilization of vehicles, and manage facilities maintenance to ensure compliance with safety standards. The Manager will also ensure efficient management of kitchen operations and laundry services, conduct inspections for compliance with policies and procedures, and prepare for health and sanitation inspections. They will conduct semi-annual and annual fire drills, prepare annual budgets, and participate in staff meetings, contributing to decision-making processes. The Manager will also create and implement a written Strategic Plan, train and evaluate assigned staff, and monitor compliance with policies and regulations. This role requires a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and following all federal, state, and local laws.

  • Ensure efficient management of kitchen operations and laundry services.
  • Conduct facilities inspections to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Conduct security, safety, and sanitation inspections of the building on a weekly basis.
  • Prepare for health and sanitation inspections for the kitchen vendor.
  • Conduct semi-annual and annual fire drills that are documented and available for review.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and manage the annual budget for the operations unit.
  • Attend all staff meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Create and implement a written Strategic Plan and make it available for review.
  • Train, coach, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Monitor compliance of new and current policies, regulations, laws, and procedures as required.

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience in logistics and facilities management.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with an acceptable driving record (no greater than -2 driving points).
  • Ability to interpret, read, comprehend, and make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to compose and edit reports, proposals, procedures, policies, and recommendations.
  • Ability to maintain composure under adverse conditions such as public harassment, critical injuries, and death.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and citizens from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper cause of action.
