About the position

The Logistics Management Specialist position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing logistics planning and management across multiple activities, including areas without dedicated supply chain personnel. This role involves developing and implementing policies for effective supply chain management, providing administrative oversight, and ensuring logistical assessments align with the needs of supported customers.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, develop, and implement policy programs and procedures for the accurate management of Supply Chain Management (SCM) planning.
  • Provide administrative and technical oversight to lower-graded specialists.
  • Perform logistical assessments of strategic supply support in coordination with supported customers and alert management of systemic problems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues where supply chain deficiencies affect the mission.
  • Collaborate with appropriate managers to provide detailed data analysis.
  • Schedule all requirements through the National Acquisition Center (NAG) to ensure equipment arrives according to planned tasking.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of supply chain logistical requirements of the health care system.
  • Knowledge of VA Logistics program goals and methods of evaluating accomplishments.
  • Skill in using automated supply databases for supply management determinations.
  • Ability to utilize analytical and statistical methods and procedures including electronic data processing and fiscal management techniques.
  • Knowledge of integrated supply management elements such as cataloging, packaging, requirements determination, procurement direction, and distribution management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in negotiating effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations.
  • Knowledge of evaluation and measurement techniques.
