About the position

The Logistics Manager serves as the key stakeholder responsible for managing the company's logistics program, which encompasses its systems, processes, relationships, and direct daily operations. This role is critical in ensuring that all company shipments, both incoming and outgoing, are managed effectively, whether they are domestic or international. The Logistics Manager is tasked with providing exceptional customer service to both external and internal stakeholders while also acting as the relationship manager for freight forwarders, carriers, customs brokers, and other related third parties such as transportation companies. In this fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and agile environment, the Logistics Manager must be a self-starter and a team player who can adapt quickly to changing circumstances. The role requires a leader who can prioritize tasks, multi-task effectively, and deliver on expectations and commitments. The position is based in Herndon, Virginia, and involves a variety of responsibilities that include the development and management of freight forwarders and carriers, negotiation of rate schedules, and coordination of billing and invoicing processes. The Logistics Manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with the company's Global Trade Controls program and maintaining accurate import/export records. The Logistics Manager will work closely with stakeholders to understand their objectives and requirements, generate requests for quotes, and negotiate with freight forwarders to meet those objectives. Additionally, the role requires the ability to resolve issues or roadblocks that may arise during the logistics process. The Logistics Manager must also be capable of handling Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Materials shipments, ensuring that all necessary certifications and documentation are in place. This position is integral to the overall success of the company's logistics operations and requires a proactive approach to developing innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, customs brokers, and other logistics partners.
  • Negotiate rate schedules and agreements with logistics partners.
  • Maintain proper partner record keeping in the company system (SharePoint).
  • Coordinate billing and invoicing processes with stakeholders.
  • Assist in the execution of agreements and documentation needs with authorized signers.
  • Select and qualify logistics partners, monitoring and evaluating their performance.
  • Resolve issues and concerns related to logistics operations.
  • Manage partner portal access and ensure compliance with logistics processes.
  • Develop logistics solutions by working with stakeholders to understand their objectives and requirements.
  • Generate requests for quotes and negotiate with freight forwarders to meet logistics objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's Global Trade Controls program and maintain compliant import/export records.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert in INCOTERMS and the Harmonized System (HS).
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems and processes.
  • Review logistics trends to improve efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
  • Develop and maintain logistics procedures and processes in the Quality Management System (QMS).

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in a global logistics or global trade/export controls environment with management-level experience.
  • U.S. Person or Permanent Residency status required.
  • Awareness of Global Trade Controls: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Strong knowledge of logistics operations and processes.
  • Proficient in MRP and ERP systems, with knowledge of NetSuite and Arena being a plus.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new computer applications quickly.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and develop/implement solutions.
