About the position

The Logistics Manager at John Soules Foods is responsible for overseeing the company's shipping operations in Valley, Alabama. This role involves managing shipment orders, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and optimizing logistics processes to maintain efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The Logistics Manager will also supervise staff, enforce company policies, and collaborate with various departments to enhance operational flow.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces all company work procedures, safety rules, and company policies.
  • Monitors and enforces all HACCP programs and maintains food quality and safety within the plant.
  • Manages and monitors shipping, receiving, and warehousing policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Accountable for the security of inventory through system transaction/documentation and process verification.
  • Oversees daily operations of receiving, warehousing, staging, and shipping.
  • Monitors warehouse capacity of stored finished goods and packaging and raw ingredients.
  • Ensures receiving is compliant with SOPs to prevent ingredient and allergen cross-contamination.
  • Motivates, evaluates, and trains subordinates regularly.
  • Conducts employee discipline as needed and ensures safety training is completed.
  • Attends weekly planning/scheduling meetings and other meetings as directed by the Distribution Manager.
  • Monitors, reviews, and approves employee time sheets weekly.
  • Conducts timely performance reviews and enforces company rules consistently.
  • Evaluates procedures and systems to identify deficiencies and implement improvements.
  • Reports food safety or quality problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Negotiates shipment transportation prices with carriers and keeps operations within budget.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises shipping employees.
  • Acts as a liaison between management, carriers, and shipping customers.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to optimize order flow from preparation to shipment.
  • Documents processes and reports to management as required.
  • Evaluates carrier performance and resolves logistics issues.

Requirements

  • Forklift Certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in logistics or supply chain management preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' supervisory/management experience in Food Manufacturing or Distribution
  • Knowledge of shipping industry regulations and practices
  • In-depth knowledge of logistics and shipping documentation
  • Extensive budgeting and reporting experience
  • Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledgeable in GMPs, Food Defense & Safety, HACCP, and Inventory Systems Management
  • Proficiency in electronic shipping software and Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with computerized and manual inventory practices
  • Good understanding of RF scanners and OSHA regulations
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts accurately
  • Ability to manage small and large projects and consistently meet deadlines

  • Bilingual skills in both English and Spanish preferred
