About the position

The Logistics Manager will oversee the planning and coordination of all logistical aspects of public health preparedness and response for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. This role involves strategic planning, ensuring readiness for supplies and equipment, and supervising staff responsible for logistical tasks. The position is crucial for managing the public health response to emergencies and requires collaboration with various partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Public Health Preparedness Program Logistics Unit, including supervising staff and ensuring readiness for urgent responses.
  • Maintain responsibility for the development and execution of logistical elements of public health emergency response plans.
  • Oversee deployment and recovery of all program inventory and maintain inventory management systems for COVID-19 supplies and other emergency response supplies.
  • Develop a staff training program for inventory management and deployment tracking.
  • Understand logistical elements of responses involving medical countermeasures and oversee product tracking and reporting.
  • Supervise site surveys and maintain records for facilities used during public health emergencies.
  • Develop and maintain distribution and transportation plans for all-hazards responses.
  • Train and oversee staff in managing organization, transportation, and safe return of program supplies during trainings and real responses.
  • Liaise with government and private partners for logistical planning operations.
  • Support the Assistant Program Manager with information technology needs for the program.
  • Develop trainings, SOPs, and procedural manuals for logistics systems and processes.
  • Support program procurement activities and oversee operations of DDC warehouse spaces.
  • Ensure effective management of COVID-19 and other emergency medication supplies and train staff on safety considerations.
  • Conduct other response-related logistics activities in support of the Division of Disease Control.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree, preferably in public health or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience working in public health, emergency management, or a related field.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of or experience in inventory management and supply chain logistics.
  • Experience in information technology and transportation planning.
