About the position

The Logistics Operations Manager will oversee daily operations at the Whitmore Lake location and a nearby client site, managing a team of 10 employees. The role focuses on ensuring smooth warehouse operations, including shipping and receiving, while implementing strategies to meet operational goals and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, and overall logistics.
  • Ensure alignment with customer shipping expectations and contract metrics.
  • Train, coach, and oversee both exempt and hourly employees, monitoring work quality and making performance-based decisions.
  • Define and implement new strategies with the site manager to meet operational goals and customer expectations.
  • Focus on LEAN techniques, quality management processes, and cost control to drive business growth and profitability.
  • Continuously assess current practices, drive improvements, and develop corrective action plans for any performance shortfalls.
  • Maintain a safe work environment while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture.
  • Manage employee relations issues, administer corrective action, and develop staff per organizational policies and regulations.
  • Schedule staff across all shifts and locations to ensure workload is properly balanced.
  • Maintain documentation for departmental processes, ensuring compliance and employee understanding of procedures.
  • Ensure workers follow safety protocols and that the workflow runs smoothly.
  • Track and monitor productivity and cost metrics (KPIs) to achieve targets and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for both internal and external customers, ensuring customer needs are met.
  • Lead by example and help establish a world-class logistics operation.
  • Regularly collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership to resolve any issues.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of managerial experience in logistics or warehousing within a third-party logistics warehouse (a relevant degree can substitute for experience).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Industrial Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in process improvement, LEAN techniques, and operational efficiency in logistics.
  • Hands-on knowledge of shipping, receiving, and warehouse management processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in team development and employee relations.
  • Experience with financial management, warehouse operations, transportation, and customer relationship management.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP/WMS systems (SAP, Cargowise) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Experience managing KPIs and achieving cost control in warehouse operations.
  • Forklift certification is a plus (sit-down and stand-up).
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs unassisted.
