About the position

The Logistics Specialist (LS) at MVM, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting operations 24/7, focusing on logistical support and administrative tasks essential for ground and air transportation. This position is vital for ensuring the safe transport of minors, working closely with field staff, the Command Center, and various stakeholders. The LS is responsible for managing vehicle transportation, overseeing vehicle safety, and ensuring that drivers are authorized to operate the vehicles. This role requires a commitment to providing mission-driven results and a supportive mentality, particularly in crisis situations and contingency operations. In this position, the Logistics Specialist will prepare, review, and coordinate all necessary documentation for the transportation of minors, ensuring that all paperwork is in order for reunification or transfer to shelters. The LS will assist with the transfer of custody and property for both small and large groups, maintain communication with teams assuming custody of unaccompanied children (UCs), and inform the command center of any transport cancellations. Additionally, the LS will be responsible for inventorying, ordering, and delivering meals and supplies, preparing essential items for trips, and driving passengers to and from client sites or airports. The role also involves ensuring that vehicles are clean, sanitized, fueled, and ready for ground trips, checking for contraband, and maintaining communication regarding the status of vehicles in transit. The Logistics Specialist will log and report all vehicle activities, prepare transportation reports, and perform other duties as assigned. This position requires a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and the ability to be on-call 24/7 with short notice, reflecting the dynamic nature of the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support operations 24/7 and perform logistical support and administrative tasks for ground and air transportation.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate documentation for the transportation of minors.
  • Assist with the transfer of custody and property for small and large groups.
  • Maintain communication with teams assuming custody of unaccompanied children (UCs).
  • Inform the command center of any transport cancellations.
  • Inventory, order, and deliver meals, supplies, and electronics; prepare backpacks with essentials for trips.
  • Drive passengers to and from client sites or airports.
  • Install and remove child car seats and booster seats as required.
  • Observe and assist with UC orientation and describe the transport process.
  • Assist in preparation for charter flights and buses, including reviewing documentation and inspecting cleanliness.
  • Clean vehicles, sanitize interiors, and ensure they are fueled and ready for ground trips.
  • Check vehicles for contraband and ensure emergency kits are present.
  • Log and report all vehicle activities in a software application.
  • Prepare transportation reports, equipment, supplies, and meal reports.

Requirements

  • Possess an associate degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited college or a high school diploma with two or more years of relevant experience.
  • At least two years of documented experience in a related field such as security, law, social work, or corrections.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees and clients.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to take technical direction and feedback from various sources.
  • Strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service and representing MVM professionally.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and balance multiple tasks in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to pass a Government Security Background Investigation, including a favorable credit check and no criminal record.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with inventory and surveillance software preferred.
  • Possess a valid and current driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Some experience with vehicle maintenance and using tablets and smartphones.
