About the position

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for managing and verifying records related to incoming and outgoing bulk shipments, both domestic and international. This role involves generating necessary reports, communicating with logistics providers, and ensuring timely deliveries while resolving any issues that may arise to prevent delays.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor in-bound raw material shipments and communicate to production.
  • Negotiate with logistics providers on bulk lane rates and accessorial charges.
  • Work with trucking companies to ensure logistic requirements are met.
  • Assist with inventory control and production planning responsibilities.
  • Manage and help resolve customer complaints and issues as it relates to shipping and inventory.
  • Communicate shipping issues or delays to Customer Service that will affect on time or In Full shipments to customers.
  • Communicate shipping issues or delays with the trucking companies to minimize impact for both parties.
  • Work as part of the order fulfillment group to identify and resolve late or delayed shipments.
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of bulk raw materials and items.
  • Review RC inventory for demurrage and coordinate FIFO policy to minimize demurrage.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling.
  • Coordinate railroad logistics (Burnham yard - Hammond site).
  • Coordinate bulk TT logistics.
  • Back-up warehouse manager when needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED; Associates of Arts degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Shipping / Receiving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of managing business relationships.
  • Excellent organizational/time management skills with a focus on multitasking and urgency.
  • Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning system is a plus.
  • Experience in performing quarterly and annual product inventory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Experience in a Union environment preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to diverse work groups.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven success in developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work in a timely manner.
  • Experience in DOT and Rail/FRA regulations.

Nice-to-haves
