About the position

The Long-Term 4th Grade Spanish Component Substitute position at Dillon Valley Elementary is a full-time role that begins at the start of the school year. The substitute teacher will work Monday through Friday from 8:15 AM to 4:05 PM. This position is designed to provide continuity in the classroom during the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that students receive a consistent educational experience. Support with planning for classes will be provided, allowing the substitute to focus on delivering effective instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment. The substitute teacher will be responsible for planning instruction and assessment that aligns with the District's learner outcomes and State achievement standards. This includes supervising assigned students and adapting instruction to meet the individual learning needs of all students, thereby increasing the likelihood of their academic advancement. The primary focus of the substitute's professional efforts will be on the development and success of their individual professional goals, particularly in instructional improvement and the development of expertise in all areas of instruction. Building and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members is also a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the approved Summit School District curriculum based on lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Implement the regular teacher's assigned responsibilities, plans, and schedule.
  • Assess student work when appropriate and time permits.
  • Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning, and maximize learning time.
  • Prepare a summary report of work completed and the day's events for the regular teacher.
  • Complete the substitute report form.
  • Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with students, parents, other staff members, and the community.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information.
  • Comply with District and School policies and procedures including meeting with assigned students at scheduled location and time.
  • Utilize the Substitute management System/Red Rover system to accept/decline/manage his/her work and schedule in the capacity of a substitute teacher.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching certification or substitute teaching license as required by the district.
  • Experience working with elementary school students, preferably in a teaching or instructional role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Familiarity with the Summit School District curriculum and assessment standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English to effectively communicate with students and parents.
  • Experience with classroom management techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and its application in the classroom.
