About the position

The Norwalk Community School District is seeking a long-term substitute Elementary Special Education Teacher (Strat I) for Lakewood Elementary, effective immediately. This role involves facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district and state-approved curriculum, while creating a flexible and safe learning environment for students in 4th and 5th grades.

Responsibilities

• Develop and administer district and state approved curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs.
• Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
• Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.
• Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
• Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies.
• Coordinate with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum.
• Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment.
• Supervise students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day.
• Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Iowa Teaching License with K-8 Instructional Strategist I.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
• Knowledge of district and state curriculum.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
