The Long Term Middle School Special Education Substitute Teacher position is a per diem role that will commence on September 1 and is expected to continue until approximately December 19, 2024. This role is crucial in providing continuity in education for students with special needs during the absence of the regular teacher. The substitute teacher will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing educational programs tailored to meet the individual physical, mental, social, emotional, and health needs of students. This includes establishing both short and long-range program goals that align with the school system's philosophy and curriculum guidelines. In addition to program planning, the substitute teacher will employ various instructional methods and resources to achieve educational objectives. Collaboration with administration may allow for deviations from standard practices to better meet the needs of individual students. The teacher will also serve as a resource in different curriculum areas, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded educational experience. Classroom management is another critical aspect of this role. The substitute teacher will create a conducive learning environment that fosters positive self-concept among students. This includes developing and enforcing rules for student behavior and maintaining order in a fair and consistent manner. The organization of classroom facilities and instructional materials will also be essential to promote optimal learning conditions. The substitute teacher will continuously assess student progress, provide regular progress reports, and communicate effectively with parents and staff to support student growth. Accurate record-keeping is required to comply with legal and district policies. Additionally, the teacher will assist in implementing school-wide policies regarding student conduct and participate in required meetings, such as faculty meetings and parent conferences. The role may also involve supervising student teachers and non-instructional personnel, attending committee meetings, and staying informed about current educational trends. The substitute teacher must be prepared to accept additional responsibilities that may arise unexpectedly, ensuring that the educational needs of students are met at all times.
