About the position

East Greenwich Public Schools is seeking Long Term Substitute Paraprofessionals to support the instructional team at Frenchtown Elementary School. The role involves assisting teachers in achieving classroom objectives, particularly for students with disabilities, and providing support in both individual and small group settings. This position is temporary and is expected to last until January 15, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in the achievement of classroom objectives.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in the review, make-up, or continuous learning activities for students according to established procedures.
  • Provide support in the instruction of students with identified disabilities.
  • Offer routine clerical support to teachers.
  • Monitor and supervise students during play periods, lunch periods, and during student arrival and dismissal.
  • Serve as the chief source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
  • Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Take appropriate action when behavior becomes disruptive or harmful.

Requirements

  • Current BCI with fingerprinting.
  • Para Pro and Associate's Degree or higher with completed coursework evidencing Reading, Writing, and Math Skills.
  • Teacher Assistant certification CPI or Safety Care Training preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of how best to support children on the spectrum.
  • Ability to follow an inclusion plan and experience in a self-contained setting.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience interacting with several teachers and related service professionals throughout the school day.
