About the position

The Long-Term Substitute Special Educator for grades 7-8 at Westborough Public Schools is responsible for fostering a love of learning and providing academic, social, and behavioral support to students with special abilities. This role involves implementing IEP goals, collaborating with colleagues, and creating a welcoming learning environment that encourages student engagement and growth. The position is temporary, covering from early December 2024 through early February 2025, and is focused on delivering high-quality educational services to a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of students to ensure that IEPs are implemented and that appropriate student progress is made.
  • Provide learning experiences across all subject areas as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, district standards, and IEP goals.
  • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively.
  • Refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning.
  • Write, revise, and monitor IEP implementation.
  • Monitor student progress using data-driven SMART Goal measures, and effectively communicate such progress through written progress reports, communications with colleagues and families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues as a Co-Teacher in order to optimize student learning.
  • Participate in professional development activities and meet district expectations for licensure recertification.
  • Participate in faculty and district-wide committees as required.
  • Supervise and coach any paraeducators assigned to the classroom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.
  • MA DESE licensure in Special Education; SEI Endorsement.
  • Experience working with students with special abilities, including students with physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.
  • Strong background in inclusive special education practices.
  • Experience writing and implementing IEPs.
  • Experience creating SMART IEP and progress goals.
  • Experience assessing student progress and writing data-supported progress reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Additional certification in general education and/or ESL.
  • Experience and certification in math is preferred.
  • Strong background in literacy and math instruction, along with science and social studies instruction.
  • Experience with co-teaching and project-based learning.

Benefits

  • Per diem pay of $170 per day, not benefits eligible.
