About the position

The Burrillville School Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Long Term Substitute Art Teacher at Burrillville High School. This role is essential for maintaining the continuity of art education during the specified period from September 3 through November 8. The selected candidate will be responsible for implementing the Burrillville School curriculum, creating a flexible and conducive learning environment that supports student achievement and personal growth. The teacher will focus on developing students' social skills and knowledge necessary for a solid foundation in the middle level grades, tailored to each student's individual abilities. Establishing positive relationships with parents and colleagues is also a key component of this role. The Long Term Substitute Art Teacher will adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students. This includes translating lesson plans into engaging learning experiences and evaluating students' academic growth. The teacher will maintain appropriate data and records, preparing progress reports and report cards as required. Adherence to the district curriculum is crucial, ensuring that timelines defined in the curriculum are met with fidelity. The teacher will strive to move students toward proficiency by providing multiple opportunities for learning and effectively communicating with parents regarding their children's progress and the school curriculum. Professional development is a priority, and the teacher will maintain professional competence through in-service education activities and embrace opportunities for growth. Participation in curriculum development programs and faculty committees, as well as the sponsorship of student activities, is expected. The teacher will also administer group standardized tests in accordance with the state testing program and manage the selection and requisition of instructional materials, maintaining accurate inventory records.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' individual needs.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Evaluates students' academic growth, maintains appropriate data/records, and prepares progress reports and report cards.
  • Follows district curriculum with fidelity meeting the timelines defined in the curriculum.
  • Makes every effort to move students toward proficiency by providing multiple opportunities to learn.
  • Effectively communicates with parents through conferences and/or other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school curriculum/expectations.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities and by embracing professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with the guidelines.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides and maintains accurate inventory records.
  • Participates on faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education
  • Rhode Island or equivalent teaching certificate
  • Experience preferred but not necessary for hiring
