About the position

The Long Term Substitute Elementary Teacher will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering culturally responsive lessons that engage and inspire students in a diverse learning environment. This role involves assessing student progress, maintaining strong connections with families and the community, and fostering an inclusive atmosphere that supports all learners. The teacher will work closely with the Elementary School Building Principal and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure student success.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and teach culturally responsive lessons that inspire students.
  • Assess, track, and provide feedback on student achievement and developmental needs.
  • Maintain strong connections with home, school, and community.
  • Differentiate and scaffold instruction to meet diverse learning styles.
  • Select and sequence culturally relevant materials and resources.
  • Design, administer, and evaluate formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide academic advice and support to students, including individual learning plans.
  • Develop and implement culturally relevant materials and resources.
  • Utilize learning spaces to share student work and experiences.
  • Maintain student data for sharing with teachers and families.
  • Create interventions and activities to meet students' needs.
  • Establish clear learning objectives for all activities.
  • Engage students actively in the learning process.
  • Communicate openly with students and adults with a growth mindset.
  • Create partnerships with parents for student success.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Monitor student behavior and seek assistance when needed.
  • Create a positive learning environment and manage student behavior.
  • Reflect on and respond to instructional practices.

Requirements

  • Elementary Certification in New York State.
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Data Driven Instruction (DDI).
  • Knowledge of developmental literacy and literacy assessments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
