The Long-term Substitute English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher at Brennan Middle School will serve from November through March 28, 2025. The goal of this position is to develop English Learners' ability to effectively perform courses of study in the English language, develop lesson plans, and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for state mandates of English Learners (ELs).
  • Delivers ESL Instruction designed to give EL's additional linguistic support through systematic, explicit, and sustained focus on language and literacy within the MA frameworks.
  • Administers tests and language assessments to evaluate student language ability.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicates expectations, and develops methods for improvement.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes.
  • Communicates with families and students to improve academic, social emotional, and behavioral success.
  • Engages in parent/guardian outreach and maintains documentation of these activities.
  • Participates in school and district initiatives and professional development.
  • Models English communication to develop student ability to communicate effectively.
  • Prepares written materials and correspondence for documenting student progress.
  • Collaborates with various staff to meet individual ELL needs.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts Licensure as an English as a Second Language Teacher 5-12
