About the position

Becker School District is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Long Term Substitute for the Grade 6 Language Arts Teacher position at Becker Middle School, which serves students in grades 6-8. This role is essential for maintaining the continuity of education during the absence of the regular teacher. The Long Term Substitute will be responsible for implementing the curriculum and ensuring that students receive a high-quality education in Language Arts. The position is set to begin on August 26 and will conclude on October 11, providing an opportunity to engage with students and contribute to their learning during this critical period. The Long Term Substitute will work closely with the existing language arts team, which consists of two teachers for each grade level, to deliver effective instruction and support to students. Responsibilities include collaborating with colleagues to implement a Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to address the diverse needs of learners. The substitute will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of students' grades and attendance, ensuring compliance with the Becker Area School District's rules and procedures. Participation in staff in-service training, staff meetings, department work, committee work, and conference nights is expected, fostering a collaborative environment among educators. The Long Term Substitute will be required to communicate positively with students, developing rapport and treating them with respect, which is vital for creating a supportive classroom atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the responsibilities required as a long term substitute working with 6th grade students in Language Arts.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Maintain accurate records of students' grades and attendance.
  • Practice and enforce rules and procedures as defined by the Becker Area School District.
  • Participate in staff in-service, staff meetings, department work, committee work, and conference nights.

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a Minnesota teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
  • Possess a high level of organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable computer user with familiarity in Student Information Systems.
  • Solid classroom management skills based on current research practices.
