About the position

The Long Term Substitute Middle School / High School English Teacher at Hill Country Christian School of Austin is responsible for providing a classical Christian educational environment that aligns with the school's mission of delivering a college preparatory education. This role involves effective classroom management, content mastery, and fostering a positive rapport with students and families while integrating biblical principles into the curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and promote high Christian standards in the academic setting.
  • Establish positive and professional rapport with students and peers.
  • Demonstrate mastery of the material being taught and maintain confidence in the educational experience.
  • Utilize effective pedagogical strategies to engage students in the learning process.
  • Teach the content and skills relevant to the course as outlined by school administration.
  • Maintain a safe environment in the classroom at all times.
  • Plan and implement lesson plans that facilitate intrinsic motivation for learning.
  • Teach subject matter with deference to Scripture and incorporate the Christian faith into lessons.
  • Facilitate a positive classroom atmosphere and maintain order conducive to learning.
  • Input attendance records and grades into the school information system in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in student discipline constructively and restore relationships.
  • Involve parents as appropriate to ensure their involvement and assistance.
  • Engage in professional development as required by school administrators.
  • Attend and participate in all staff and departmental meetings as required.
  • Ensure students and staff care for and respect the school's physical facilities.
  • Report incidents of vandalism and misuse of school property.
  • Address any staff, student, or parent issues according to the principles set forth in Matthew 18.
  • Notify administration of significant discipline issues and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Notify the head of school and principal of any evidence of abuse or severe conditions.
  • Notify school officials of any behavior that poses a physical risk to others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds the school's Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Qualified to teach the subject-area at the appropriate level.
  • Certification in the content area is preferred.
  • Possess sufficient biblical knowledge to integrate Scripture into subjects taught.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in classroom management.
  • Previous teaching experience in a similar role.

Benefits

  • Part-time position with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour plus $30.00 a day.
