About the position

The Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for Grade 8 at Atlantis Charter School is responsible for providing instructional support to students with diverse learning needs. This role emphasizes creating an inclusive and positive learning environment that addresses both academic and social-emotional needs of students. The teacher will work collaboratively with a team to implement effective teaching strategies and behavior management policies, ensuring that all students can succeed academically and personally.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to MA Curriculum Frameworks and ACS Curriculum
  • Efficiently organize and execute lesson plans
  • Manage the classroom environment effectively
  • Promote student learning and achievement
  • Demonstrate effective teaching strategies
  • Utilize technology appropriately in the classroom
  • Promote equity and fairness in the classroom
  • Measure and assess student achievement
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all members of the school community
  • Engage in professional development and career growth activities
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Respond to concerns and requests of direct reports in a timely manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in the area of certification preferred
  • Valid Teaching License recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or eligibility to obtain such licensure within one year
  • Ability to pass relevant MTEL's within one year of employment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
  • At least one year of teaching experience preferred
  • Experience creating instructional materials and hands-on learning activities preferred
  • Experience using technology in the classroom preferred
  • Ability to relate well to others
  • Understanding of challenges faced by students in an urban setting

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of charter schools and their unique characteristics
  • Willingness to get involved with students outside of the classroom in activities such as clubs, sports, and tutoring
