About the position

The Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher/Math position at William Allen Middle School involves teaching in accordance with the curriculum approved by the board of education. The teacher will develop and maintain lesson plans and instructional materials that adapt to the needs of each student, ensuring a positive learning environment. The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to maintain a classroom conducive to learning. The teacher will also be responsible for implementing accommodations and services as required by students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Responsibilities

  • Teach in accordance with the curriculum, utilizing philosophy, goals and materials approved by the board of education.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans and instructional materials that provide appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Set specific objectives in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans.
  • Plan class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate.
  • Participate with other staff members in planning during designated times.
  • Incorporate all requirements in a student's IEP provided through the district's child study team.
  • Keep current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory.
  • Assist in the ongoing curriculum revision process.
  • Show evidence of planning upon request.
  • Work to achieve state core curriculum content standards and district educational goals.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Employ differentiated instructional techniques as needed.
  • Identify student needs and provide appropriate, engaging instruction.
  • Implement required accommodations and services as required by students' IEPs.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques.
  • Utilize class time effectively, supervising students in assigned activities.
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport.
  • Maintain records of pupil's educational progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members.
  • Monitor pupil academic progress and personal growth.
  • Evaluate accomplishments of students using multiple assessment methods.
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students.
  • Communicate with parents about the school program and pupil progress.
  • Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings, and other school system groups.
  • Refer students to appropriate support personnel using prescribed district procedures.
  • Implement all relevant policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Strive to maintain and enhance professional competence.
  • Attend staff, department, and committee meetings as required.
  • Complete all state mandated training and other professional development requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with State and Federal laws.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or principal.

Requirements

  • New Jersey Teacher Certificate (CEAS, CE or Standard)
  • Math Certification Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities
