About the position

This long-term substitute teaching position for High School Spanish involves modeling respect and awareness of diversity while effectively engaging with students from various backgrounds. The role requires the development and implementation of lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of students, ensuring alignment with district and state curriculum standards. The substitute teacher will also assess student progress, adapt instruction for specialized needs, and maintain open communication with students and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Model and teach respect with an awareness of diversity.
  • Establish clear objectives and create long- and short-range plans for instruction.
  • Develop and carry out organized lessons and learning activities suitable for students' developmental levels.
  • Vary and pace classroom strategies to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Diagnose the instructional needs of all students and devise appropriate learning activities.
  • Implement district and state curriculum standards in instructional activities.
  • Provide feedback promptly to students on their progress and assignments.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of individual student plans (e.g., IEP, 504).
  • Adapt and modify classroom instruction for students needing specialized instruction.
  • Work collaboratively with diverse student, staff, and community populations.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and district policy.
  • Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
  • Train and act as lead worker for Educational Assistants.
  • Reflect upon own teaching performance and accept supervisory feedback.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon substitute or teacher's license; World Language: Spanish endorsement preferred.
  • Understanding of human growth and development patterns, learning theory, and brain research.
  • Content knowledge in subject areas taught.
  • Familiarity with a variety of age-appropriate instructional, assessment, and classroom management strategies.
  • Knowledge of state standards and curriculum frameworks for high school levels.
  • Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.

Benefits

  • Competitive daily pay rate of $211.92, increasing to $263.54 after 10 consecutive days in position.
