About the position

The First Academy is seeking a dedicated Long Term Substitute Teacher for Middle School English to join our team from November 2024 to February 2025. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting students' learning and maintaining a positive classroom environment. As a Substitute Teacher, you will guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons or unit projects and effectively communicating these objectives to students. You will report to the divisional principal or administrative assistant upon arrival at the school and will be responsible for maintaining the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which you are assigned. Your primary responsibilities will include teaching the lesson plan as outlined by the absent teacher, meeting and instructing assigned classes at designated locations and times, and ensuring that you are actively engaged with students throughout the classroom. It is essential to keep track of students leaving for bathroom breaks or other errands while maintaining appropriate and respectful relationships with them. You will also be tasked with creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. As an employee of The First Academy, you will be expected to embrace a Christian worldview and serve as a role model for students, adhering to the guidelines of the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000 and the School's Statement of Faith. This role requires a mature personal Christian faith, strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school and student matters. Familiarity with technology in a classroom environment, particularly Apple products, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Move throughout the classroom and keep eyes on all students at all times.
  • Keep track of students leaving to use the bathroom or run other errands.
  • Maintain appropriate and respectful relationships with students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Requirements

  • Teaching Certification (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree (Required)
  • 1 year of teaching experience (Required)
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to finish tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality pertaining to school/student matters
  • Experience using technology in a classroom environment, preferably Apple products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience preferred, or equivalent proven expertise through related work experience.
  • Licensed by a regionally accredited agency, ACSI, or State Teacher's certification.

Benefits

  • Temporary position with pay ranging from $18.00 to $20.00 per hour.
