About the position

The Long Term Substitute Teacher at Belmont Charter Network is responsible for providing instructional coverage and classroom management during teacher absences. This role is essential in maintaining continuity of education and ensuring student safety and well-being. The Building Substitute will work closely with students, staff, and parents to foster a positive learning environment and support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of each child.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for teachers and staff members who are absent due to illness, professional development, or other reasons.
  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by absent teachers to maintain continuity of instruction.
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering engaging lessons and managing classroom behavior effectively.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch periods, and recess.
  • Ensure student safety and well-being at all times.
  • Implement school policies and procedures consistently.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to meet the needs of students.
  • Communicate effectively with administrators and colleagues regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Stay informed about school policies, curriculum updates, and best practices in education.
  • Be prepared to work in various grade levels and subject areas as needed.
  • Adjust teaching strategies and approaches to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities and duties as assigned.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution.
  • 1-2 years of classroom experience, preferably in urban education.
  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate (preferred).
  • Experience collaborating with school-based administration and counselors to ensure student success.
  • Experience using data to monitor students' academic and behavioral progress.
  • Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
