About the position

The Long-Term Substitute Grade 2 Teacher at Downey Elementary School is responsible for planning, delivering, and implementing effective instruction while assessing student learning in alignment with state curriculum frameworks and district goals. This role emphasizes creating a safe and inclusive educational environment, collaborating with families and professionals, and fostering student success from November 18, 2024, through January 23, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Plan engaging lessons with clear and measurable objectives relevant to the curriculum and students.
  • Manage class operations by enforcing high academic and behavioral expectations and implementing routines.
  • Create a positive class environment by building relationships with students and promoting self-discipline.
  • Deliver instruction effectively by establishing high expectations and connecting new learning to prior knowledge.
  • Assess student understanding through self-assessments and formative and summative measures.
  • Collaborate with professionals to analyze student work and implement new teaching strategies.
  • Understand and participate in the Individual Education Programs and 504 Accommodation Plans of students.
  • Communicate students' progress to parents or guardians respectfully and responsively.
  • Fulfill professional responsibilities by collaborating with colleagues and participating in professional development.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts teaching certification in relevant area
  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of MA curriculum frameworks and Westwood learning expectations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • Technological proficiency for communication and instruction

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching
  • Knowledge of relevant School Committee Policies and state and federal laws
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines
