About the position

The Long Term Substitute Teacher for the Intensive Support Classroom (STRIVE) at Western Coventry School is responsible for providing specialized educational support to a small group of students with significant autism-related issues and behavioral challenges. This role involves implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring they receive the necessary support for their academic and social development.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized instruction and support to students with significant autism-related issues.
• Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
• Collaborate with special education staff and other educators to ensure effective support.
• Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
• Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment.

Requirements

• Current RI Dept of Education (RIDE) Special Education certification for grades K-8.
• Experience working with students with autism and behavioral challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual student needs.
