About the position

The Home Gear Industrial Designer is responsible for generating innovative design concepts for toddler strollers that meet consumer needs. This role serves as a liaison between Marketing, Engineering, and external design partners, ensuring that design solutions align with marketing criteria and user experience. The designer will utilize sketching and CAD tools to develop products from concept to prototype, while also conducting market research and collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Generate innovative design concepts for toddler strollers based on consumer research and marketing requests.
  • Act as a liaison between Marketing, Engineering, and external design partners.
  • Examine marketing criteria and research consumer needs to develop user experience and ergonomics.
  • Create design concepts using sketches and 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Participate in marketing research considering user needs and human factors.
  • Interface with external design partners and evaluate long-term business relationships.
  • Review design presentations and provide feedback on engineering and design hurdles.
  • Ensure project goals such as time and cost are met.
  • Conduct competitive research to understand how end users use products.
  • Present design solutions through sketches, CAD models, and physical mock-ups.

Requirements

  • 3-8 years of experience in product design, specifically in industrial design.
  • BA or BS in Industrial Design from an accredited school.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good rapid visualization skills through sketches and renderings for concept exploration.
  • Design sensitivity to home décor and experience in furniture or furniture-like products.
  • Experience designing products involving user interaction and ergonomics.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch Book, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient with Solidworks, ProE Creo, On-shape, Alias, or Rhino.
  • Rendering experience with Keyshot, Visualize, or similar tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of basic engineering principles.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturing.
  • Experience working with and managing external design partners.
  • Familiarity with juvenile industry standards and testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with rendering videos is a bonus.
  • Experience in the juvenile industry is a bonus.
