About the position

The In-Store Loss Prevention Specialist is responsible for preventing loss and controlling shrink in a retail environment. This role involves monitoring store activities, deterring theft, and ensuring compliance with company policies related to loss prevention. The specialist works closely with management and law enforcement to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and associates.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the checkout area for consumer fraud and associate dishonesty.
  • Follow up on front-end exception report transactions as directed by the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Observe customers throughout the store to monitor shrink control, safety, and customer service.
  • Apprehend shoplifters in accordance with state and local laws and company policy.
  • Cooperate with police departments and other public agencies as directed by Loss Prevention.
  • Monitor the receiving area and conduct delivery audits to detect vendor fraud and ensure compliance with receiving policies.
  • Assist management in loss prevention inspections.
  • Respond to Electronic Article Surveillance alarms.
  • Maintain loss prevention and physical security equipment, including CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Conduct store inspections/audits for compliance with shrink control and physical security policies.
  • Document violations and advise store management and the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Conduct internal and vendor investigations as directed by the Loss Prevention Manager.
  • Train associates on loss prevention programs or policies as directed by the Loss Prevention Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be 20 years of age.
  • High School education or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Pass a drug test and subject to a criminal background check.
  • No felony convictions or other convictions that may endanger Albertsons or its associates.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret signs and labels.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to cooperate and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and apply information from company manuals and loss prevention policies.
  • Ability to handle confrontational situations and respond quickly to incidents.
  • Basic computer skills necessary for email and report access.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail loss prevention or security.
  • Knowledge of local laws related to theft and apprehension.
