About the position

The Senior Safety Specialist at JE Dunn will coordinate and implement the field safety program for both routine and complex construction projects, with a strong focus on Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. This role involves conducting safety inspections, identifying hazardous conditions, writing reports, and performing trend analysis to enhance safety measures in alignment with the company's strategy and values.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conduct regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
  • Conduct safety audits on assigned projects, identifying and recommending abatement of hazardous conditions.
  • Utilize internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques.
  • Conduct project-specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
  • Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and subcontractors' safety programs.
  • Attend project pre-planning and progress meetings to discuss safety-related matters.
  • Support field leadership in implementing safety program specifics and chair the project safety committee.
  • Assist in the investigation of project-related accidents and recommend changes to eliminate recurrence.
  • Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return to work.
  • Compile progress summary reports of injuries for supervisors.
  • Monitor site safety incentive program.
  • Provide guidance and training on safety-related topics for new or existing personnel.
  • Assist safety leadership during insurance audits.
  • Oversee complex projects and manage controlled insurance program projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a safety and health-related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of construction safety experience (required).
  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in company safety software and tools.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Knowledge of various testing protocols for environmental hazards.
