About the position

The Technician II role involves performing skilled infrastructure and structured cabling work, including installation, service, maintenance, repair, and alteration of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, and communications cabling systems. This position is based in Fredericksburg, VA, and requires candidates to be local to Central Virginia. The role includes occasional travel and emphasizes adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance while wearing the company uniform during all project-related duties.
  • Accept direction and critiques from Team Members in leadership roles.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude with the ability to read blueprints, architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents.
  • Complete Telecommunication Room build-outs including rack construction, ladder rack installation, wire management, and grounding.
  • Install, terminate, and test low voltage cables including twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cable, and fiber optic cable.
  • Articulate the differences and similarities in the testing requirements for various categories of copper & fiber media.
  • Ensure proper test equipment is available and in working order for accurate testing according to project commitments.
  • Implement labeling schemes as detailed in the Project Scope of Work.
  • Comprehend publications pertaining to standard cabling for telecom, data, security & wireless systems practices, engineering & safety standards.
  • Make decisions that support corporate values, mission, vision, and quality goals.
  • Inform Operations Manager weekly on project progress, problems, milestones, and other pertinent aspects of the installation.
  • Ensure project team members follow job site safety procedures and processes.
  • Obtain Project Acceptance from the customer at the completion of the project.
  • Use proper care on all company assets to avoid breakage, misuse, theft, etc.
  • Promote Environmental, Health & Safety policies of Childress Solutions.
  • Attend classes and training sessions to obtain and maintain vendor certifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in the installation, maintenance & programming of electronics associated with Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, CCTV Security, Access control & Wireless Solutions.
  • Possess personal tools as outlined in the tech tier tool list.
  • Ability to install, terminate & test low voltage cables & fiber optical cables.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage infrastructure and related services.
  • Ability to understand complex wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screening and DCJS registration.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Finger & wrist dexterity & hand/eye coordination.
  • Ability to work from heights using proper fall protection.
  • Ability to use small hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional low voltage systems and technologies.
  • Certifications related to low voltage cabling or telecommunications.
