About the position

As a Low Voltage Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of security systems and audio-visual (AV) equipment. This role requires expertise in low-voltage electrical systems, AV technology, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve issues effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain security systems, including IP Video surveillance cameras, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Set up and integrate AV systems, such as projectors, displays, sound systems, video conferencing equipment, control systems, and digital signage.
  • Run and terminate cabling for security and AV systems, ensuring tidy and organized installations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on security and AV systems to ensure peak performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair security and AV equipment, including hardware and software issues.
  • Provide on-site support for system malfunctions and minimize system downtime.
  • Integrate security and AV systems with other networked systems for seamless operation.
  • Program and customize security and AV systems based on client specifications.
  • Update firmware and software for security and AV devices as needed.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and offer tailored solutions.
  • Conduct training sessions for clients on system operation.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and guidance to clients.
  • Keep detailed records of installations, configurations, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and local regulations for all installations.
  • Stay current with trends and innovations in security and AV technology.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certifications in relevant areas (e.g., CompTIA, AVIXA, security certifications) are a plus.
  • Experience in installing and maintaining security and AV equipment.
  • Solid knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, wiring, and cabling standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with network protocols and IP-based systems is advantageous.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics is a plus.
  • Certifications in security systems (e.g., CCTV, alarm systems), AV control systems (e.g., Q-SYS), and cybersecurity practices for security/AV systems preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule, including the ability to travel up to 30%-40% as needed.
  • Ability to pass drug screenings and background checks.
  • Valid driver's license with an insurance-approved driving record (must maintain less than 3 points on fleet policy).
