About the position

The Pegasus School is searching for a Director of Lower School to join our bright, curious, and kind community. The School is looking forward to the next phase of building and growth in support of our mission, and seeks a compassionate, dedicated, and caring leader to join our team. The Lower School Director has a critical role in the leadership of the Lower School to facilitate student success academically, socially, and emotionally. The Director will be expected to run effectively the day-to-day operations of grades PK-5, including oversight of the student experience; hiring, support, and retention of faculty and staff; and support of students and families as they progress through their educational journey. Frequent and consistent communication with an emphasis on building strong relationships with all members of the community is of paramount importance. The Director will serve on the school's leadership team, report to the Associate Head of School, and will work collaboratively with all school administrators to advance the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate student success academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of grades PK-5.
  • Manage the student experience.
  • Hire, support, and retain faculty and staff.
  • Support students and families throughout their educational journey.
  • Communicate frequently and consistently with all community members.
  • Serve on the school's leadership team.
  • Collaborate with school administrators to advance the institution.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in a related field and/or a credential in Educational Administration.
  • Three or more years of experience in school administration.
  • Five or more years of teaching experience, K-5 teaching and/or administrative experience preferred.
  • Knowledge in leadership, group dynamics, and oversight of independent school functions.
  • Solid understanding of children's academic, social, and emotional development and adolescent psychology.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and guests.
  • Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex tasks and projects efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate, delegate, supervise, and demonstrate excellent judgment.
