About the position

The Loy H. Witherspoon Professorship in Christian Origins at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a full-time, tenured faculty position aimed at enhancing research and grant activity in the field of religious studies, particularly focusing on Christian origins. The successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and MA-level courses, contribute to the department's mission, and foster community engagement within the Charlotte region.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and MA-level graduate courses in Christian origins with a 2-2 teaching load.
  • Conduct scholarly research and publish findings in the field of religious studies.
  • Engage with local organizations and cultural associations to promote the department's mission.
  • Advise and mentor students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a field applicable to the academic study of Christian Origins from an accredited institution.
  • Exceptional record of scholarly accomplishment with significant national and/or international stature.
  • Proven success in teaching, advising, and mentoring students of all backgrounds.
  • Interest in fostering engagement and dialogue among departments within the College and across the University.
  • A scholarly agenda with a public-facing dimension that engages the Charlotte community.
